Barceloneta Neighbourhood Festival 2026
Winning design in the poster competition for the 2026 Festa Major de la Barceloneta, organised by the neighbourhood’s Festival Committee in collaboration with Barcelona City Council’s Ciutat Vella District.
The illustration brings together some of the most recognisable symbols of the neighbourhood’s festive traditions, featuring the giant figures Pep Barceló and Maria la Néta, alongside the dwarf figure General Lagarto and his traditional festive cannon, as the main characters. The composition also incorporates elements of Barceloneta’s maritime identity, including seagulls, boats and the seafront, with the unmistakable silhouette of the W Barcelona hotel. Rows of hanging laundry evoke the everyday streetscape of the iconic Carrer dels Pescadors.
The design reinterprets this popular imagery through a geometric visual language, simplified forms and a fresh, Mediterranean-inspired colour palette. Flat colours, a dynamic composition and custom, expressive typography come together to create a contemporary interpretation that captures the neighbourhood’s maritime heritage, festive spirit and sense of community.
